Thursday November 16, 2017 at 7:30
Carmel Area Wastewater District Community Room
3945 Rio Rd, Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA 93922

On Thursday November 16, Brian LeNeve, project coordinator for the Phase II Large Woody Debris Project, will give a Power Point presentation of the project. Brian will take us through from the time we received the rootwads until installation a decade later.

CRSA hired a photographer/videographer to document the installation day events so there will be drone video of the day as well as lots of photos of all aspects of the project. This was a fascinating project that may never be duplicated in the future so now is your chance to view it all.

September Program

September 19, 2017, 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History

The Carmel River Steelhead Association’s (CRSA) September program will feature Sarah Hardgrave of the Big Sur Land Trust speaking about the Carmel River FREE Project.

Sarah describes the project as; “Monterey County Resource Management Agency and Big Sur Land Trust (BSLT) are co-sponsors of the landmark Carmel River Floodplain Restoration and Environmental Enhancement (Carmel River FREE) Projectto reduce flood risks and restore habitat where the natural and built environments intersect along the lower Carmel River and Carmel Lagoon. This project is one of the most important multi-benefit flood protection and riparian habitat restoration efforts on the Central Coast. This presentation will provide an overview of the Carmel River FREE Project’s design and focus on how it can improve and enhance steelhead habitats in the restored Carmel Lagoon south arm.”

Sarah Hardgrave has been the Conservation Programs Manager at BSLT since the spring of 2014. She first began working with the Big Sur Land Trust as a consultant in late 2013 to help develop a vision for green infrastructure in Monterey County. She was then was hired to help manage key green-infrastructure projects for BSLT and the region, most notably the Carmel River Floodplain Restoration and Environmental Enhancement Project. Sarah is grateful to be able to use her planning, grant, and project-management skills in a nonprofit setting and to help successfully implement BSLT’s conservation programs.

Sarah has worked as an environmental and water-resources planner for more than 18 years, both in the public and private sectors. She holds an undergraduate degree in environmental studies from Mount Holyoke College and a master’s degrees in community and regional planning and public administration from the University of Oregon. From 2008 to 2013, she worked for the city of Pacific Grove, managing its environmental programs. She also previously worked for the county of Monterey and has over six years of experience in environmental planning and project-management consulting with architecture, civil engineering, and planning firms.

Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sarah moved to Monterey County in 2001 to support her aging grandparents, who were living in Carmel Valley at the time. She is passionate about the Trust’s mission to inspire love of the land, and she enjoys the splendor of Monterey County’s rugged coastline and various microclimates by getting outside as often as possible.

The talk will start at 7:00 PM on September 19th at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History, 165 Forest Ave., Pacific Grove. The presentation will be free to both CRSA and Museum members. The Museum has asked that all others pay the $5.00 museum entrance fee.
