Rescue Data 1989 to Present

* In 2014 the river did not run to the ocean, so no adult steelhead were able to migrate up the river and spawn. CRSA volunteers spent 10 hours over 6 days checking all four tributaries to see if any juveniles were still present and found none.

† In 2015 only 17 adult steelhead were believed to have entered the Carmel River and only seven passed over San Clemente Dam. No spawning was observed in any of the tributaries. CRSA volunteers spent 18 hours over 6 days monitoring the tributaries and saw no spawning nest or any juveniles so no rescues were performed. In 2015, as in 2013 and 2014, CRSA was prevented from rescuing from the mainstream of the Carmel River.

Volunteer

The Carmel River Steelhead Association is an all-volunteer organization. While the CRSA board members do the day-to-day work for the organization, it is the countless other volunteers that are the backbone of CRSA. Without the help of many, CRSA could not do the fish rescues, habitat improvements, river cleanups, or water advocacy that have helped steelhead since 1974.

Please consider signing up to become a CRSA volunteer. There is no requirement that anyone participate in every effort or any particular effort in a given year. Just join us when you have time or the activity seems interesting. As a volunteer you will receive the CRSA newsletter and emails when volunteers are needed as well as an email on the results of the project.
